Staff Spotlight - Adam Lane

What do you do at Greengauge?

I design and manage a number of building services projects within the practice from single dwellings to masterplan development of 600 properties.

What motivates you to get up and go to work?

Interactions with people, colleagues, design teams or developing new business leads.

What has been your favourite project so far?

The Goldsmiths Street project in Norwich. We learnt a lot, met some great people and developed some good follow on projects. It happened to win the RIBA Stirling prize as well!

If you could switch jobs with anyone (in any industry), who would it be?

Bricklayer. They work five hours and day and charge the earth. Only joking! Maybe a lecturer in HVAC, which I have done at Bath College previously, to educate the up and coming talent.

What do you like most about your job?

The team here at Greengauge, not a white collar in sight.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I play guitar and have a soft spot for . . . Guns ‘n’ Roses.

What are your hopes for our industry?

That the profile of building services is improved and respected within my lifetime. Too often it is seen as a necessary evil and the first to get the value engineering treatment.

What is on your bucket list?

I’m lucky, I’ve done a lot of travelling, skydiving etc. So I’m happy to just watch my daughter grow up into an amazing young lady.
