Staff Spotlight - Louis Dawson
What do you do at Greengauge?
Officially, I’m a CAD engineer at Greengauge, but I also get to design the mechanical systems I draw (drainage, hot and cold water, heating, and vent) along with learning the inherent calcs.
What motivates you to get up and go to work?
Our work environment (when we aren’t in lockdown) isn’t like any other I’ve seen. I enjoy coming in just to see everyone. Even on days where everyone’s drowning in work there’s still plenty of time for jokes. And then at the end of it all, we’re still putting out highly efficient, comfortable and bulletproof systems – everybody wins.
What has been your favourite project so far?
That’s a tough one. Recently I’ve enjoyed Hot Tannery and Brook Farm because they’ve been good size projects and both complete packages of work on my end. I feel like I’ve been able to put into practice all the different skills I’ve learnt during my years here. However, I’ve also enjoyed Eckweek and Hawking Sopers – which have given me a chance to work on services with colleagues Jack and Mitch.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
As of the 11th of July (assuming training goes well), I’ll be an on-call firefighter down at Bradford on Avon station. It’s been over a year in the making but I’m looking forward to finally getting started.
What’s on your bucket list?
I’d love to have a car that I enjoy looking at – but along with that, it needs to be practical: i.e. I’d need to drive it regularly and be able to keep it clean, which at the moment just isn’t possible.
