Staff Spotlight - Hannah Jones
What do you do at Greengauge?
Founding Director, chief dog trainer.
What motivates you to get up and go to work?
Seeing how far Greengauge has come in ten years since Toby and I had a plan whilst sailing. Also that everyone we meet, work with and speak to I hope looks at buildings, energy and climate change in a different way and is hopefully engaged to make more of a difference.
What has been your favourite project so far?
Ooh that’s tough, I have enjoyed many aspects of lots of projects. I really like the tough ones and I love working with old buildings! I think Bibury Barns combined both energy performance and conservation to produce a stunning finish so that was great to be a part of and I hope we can achieve the same on many other projects. Goldsmith Street (RIBA Stirling Prize winner) was obviously a ground breaking project to be involved with, it certainly had its challenges but it was a great team to work with.
If you could switch jobs with anyone, who would it be?
I went on safari last year horse riding with the Big Five. I would love to be as knowledgeable and in tune with your surroundings as our guides Ray and Philip, such an amazing experience. Can’t think of a more amazing job than riding and interacting and learning about wildlife all day!
Watch this if you want to find out what African Horse Safaris are like, these kinds of encounters don’t happen every time you walk into the bush.
What do you like most about your job?
Our team. Toby and I have built a fantastic team around us and that enables us to steer our business to achieve the goals we set ourselves.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I am a bit of a Harry Potter fan – I find listening to Stephen Fry read them the best way to fall asleep!
Can you recommend your favourite blog?
I am not really a big blog reader, I spend any spare time either with my dogs or my horses!
What are your hopes for our industry?
I hope that we move to all buildings being Passivhaus and beyond. I hope also we can change to a more fundamental assumption of sustainable growth. I do not believe we can continue to consume as we currently do.
What’s on your bucket list?
Firstly to return to South Africa riding. Secondly a long riding trip, I would love to do the Silk Roads by horse.
