Staff Spotlight - Gerard Thacker

What do you do at Greengauge?

I lead the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) design on some of our larger projects and coordinate with our Building Physicists to help them communicate the important things at the right times in the project. I also help to train up and mentor our more junior engineers and do various other management tasks to keep the business running.

What motivates you to get up and go to work?

I feel that I need to use my experience to help crack the challenge of getting our carbon emissions under control without breaking the bank. I owe that to my kids! I also really enjoy working with good new design teams.

What has been your favourite project so far?

Probably our Passivhaus social housing projects for City of York Council (Willow House and Ordnance Lane). Feels like very much the right thing to be doing at the moment and they are a great team to work with.

What are your hopes for our industry?

That we can get best practice sustainability engrained as the norm rather than the exception.

What do you most like about your job?

Meeting new people and solving new problems (both engineering and social!)
